November Newsletter Highlights

Dear Kafunta Friend!

How is it December already, and the last month of our 2025 season?

This year has absolutely raced by!

The Kafunta plains turning green with the first rains

But first things first: the rains have finally arrived in Mfuwe! And with it, the Emerald season.

Just look at this gorgeous photo. Isn’t it incredible how quickly everything turns green after the first downpour? And look at those wild mangoes! I can assure you, the baboons, monkeys and elephants are in fierce competition for them!

And with the first rains come the magical inswa, those winged termites taking their one and only flight of their life! Open the newsletter for more.

Inswa, flying termites

I absolutely love the way the landscape changes with the rains. I dug through our archives to find similar shots from the exact same angle — the lower deck at Kafunta River Lodge — at different times of year.

Rosi & Hans - 23 years of "Guest-ship"

Anke and Ron have just left the valley to head to their “other” home in Australia for the holidays. But before leaving, they had the joy of welcoming two very special guests: Rosi and Hans Korn, who have now visited us an incredible 13 times.

Their story is the kind that truly defines Kafunta. Guests turned friends.

The Story behind it all

In this newsletter I also talk about the story of Anke and Ron, which started in 1988. This is the subject of one of our latest blogs, which you can read here
