SUSTAINABILITY & ORGANIC FOOD

Our cuisine is inspired by Africa’s rich cultural heritage, it is sophisticated, tasty and healthy and no matter what your dietary restrictions are, our chefs will be happy to prepare delectable dishes to please all palates. We hope to surprise your tastebuds with our selection of fresh vegetables, juicy fruits and Zambian-sourced meat and fish that compose our every-day menu at Kafunta River Lodge and our two bush camps. We grow our own herbs and part of our vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes. We look at Mfuwe growers for staple supplies and the rest of our kitchen provisions are ordered from Chipata or Lusaka.

OUR FOOD

Our preparations are varied and inspired by African and Worldwide gastronomic cultures to result in an aromatic fusion of food served in spectacular wilderness settings.

OUR CHEFS

All our chefs are Luangwa locals and are passionate about food preparation and learning new culinary skills. We offer on-going training with in-house or visiting gastronomic specialists and together they design the season’s menu, from morning snacks to desserts.

OUR GARDEN

We strive to source our food as locally and as sustainably as possible. We have a huge elephant-proof garden where we grow herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, etc and we rely on local farmers for much of our fresh supplies.

YOUR CULINARY EXPERIENCE

EARLY BREAKFAST

Before the morning safari we offer a light continental breakfast which typically includes freshly baked bread, pastries, cereals, milk & yoghourt and fresh fruits

LUNCH

Our early lunch is served buffet-style with a variety of cooked dishes, fresh salads, homemade rolls and a succulent dessert

AFTERNOON TEA

A choice of savoury nibbles and delicious sweet treats are served before setting off on your afternoon activity

SUNDOWNERS

An African tradition! While on your afternoon game drive, you will stop to contemplate the sunset while sipping your choice of beverage (think G&T!) served with snacks such as nuts, dried fruits, and homemade savouries

DINNER

Usually served under the stars, our four-course dinner includes a soup, a first starter, a main and a dessert – prepared daily by our team of passionate chefs. We offer private tables at Kafunta River Lodge while dinner is hosted by the camp manager at the bush camps.
