April 2025: our new season has started!
Newsletter
Dear Kafunta Friend!
We’re back, and it feels good!
Welcome to our 2025 season! After a few quiet months (well, on the surface), I’m thrilled to reconnect with you as we kick off a brand-new safari season. Kafunta River Lodge and the Sunset House reopened on March 30th, and things are already buzzing. The rains have left everything green and full of life, and our team is back on deck, doing what they love most.
Back Row: TJ, Sam, Martin, Raphael, Levy and Kelvin
Front Row: Betty, Paige and Aggie
Anke & Ron are also back at the lodge, after a couple of months in Australia, and an incredible hiking trip through the heights of Nepal (photo above).
Latest Updates
In this newsletter, we’re first covering the latest changes in our management team and what everyone has been up to during the rainy season. Along with updates on our local community and conservation NGOs.
Then we talk about one of our first guests, Dianne Tipping-Woods, a freelance journalist who has spent most of her career exploring stories that connect people, wildlife, and wild places across Southern Africa.
2025 STARTS WITH A BOOM!
We share a few photos of the first safaris of the season. It seems all the animals were there to celebrate our opening, too, considering how spoiled our first guests have been!
And we end with some news about a new book published by Denis Costello, called “Walking Safaris of Africa”. An in-depth guide to the best walking safaris from Cape Town to Kenya.
